In past times you would have seen a lot of ships anchored in the harbour of Greifswald which exported salt and corn to Sweden or Norway or imported goods from there. Until 1863, when Greifswald was connected to the railway network, the harbour on the river Ryck was the town´s main and only worth mentioning link to the rest of the world.

Today the small harbour of Greifswald has not got any commercial or economical importance. It is rather a museum where you can enjoy seeing some old ships. Small signboards in front of them deliver information among other things about their history and former use. Among other ships you can see ...

  • a freighter called Solvang, two masted, 30 m long, 6 m broad, built in Norway in 1930

  • a freighter called Vertrouwen, 20 m long, built in 1896

  • a trawler called Vorpommern, two masted, 18 m long, 6 m broad, built in 1950, and

  • a freighter called Aenna te Gondern, 20 m long, 5 m broad, built in Gouda (NL) in 1890.
