  St Spiritus
At first glance it is not easy to discover the former chapel of the St Spiritus building complex at Lange Straße (Long Street) because the gothic building has been rebuilt significantly several times. In its original form the chapel was double-naved, but today there is only one nave left having served both as a residential building and as a warehouse and bakery for centuries since the 16th century. After the restoration in 2003 the former chapel is now used as a platform for cultural purposes.

The following ancient buildings are also part of the St Spiritus building complex:

  • two multistorey eaved houses erected between 1819 and 1821. One of them is located at Lange Straße, the other one at the corner of Lange Straße and Rotgerberstraße.
  • a three storey extension wing at Rotgerberstraße built in 1885.
  • two half timbered terraced houses dating from the 18th century. They can be found inside the courtyard behind the buildings of Lange Straße and Rotgerberstraße.

These lovely and worth seeing half timbered houses were used as poor and old people´s home until 1975. Inside the courtyard from which there is a splendid view of the tower of St. Nicholas´ you can also see a small bell dating from 1623. Today the ancient half timbered houses are part of the Social Cultural Centre.
